최치원,"지광스님께 드립니다 贈智光上人"

崔致遠（號孤雲，857 – 915）

 

〈贈智光上人〉

 

雲畔結精盧，安禪四紀餘。

筇無出山步，筆絕入京書。

竹架泉聲緊，松欞日影踈。

境高吟不盡，瞑目悟真如。

 

       注：《孤雲先生文集》卷之一，題目作〈贈雲門蘭若智光上人〉。智光和尚為何許人尚待確認。法號智光之佛僧，歷史上有數人，而我未能找出生卒年與孤雲先生略同者。請讀者幫忙。

 

최치원 (호, 고운, 857 – 915)

 

"지광스님께 드립니다"

 

구름 언저리에 공부방을 꾸리고

조용히 참선하신 게 어언 사 십여 년,

 

지팡이는 산 밖 나들이를 하지 않았고;

붓은 도성으로 보내는 편지를 끊었습니다

 

대나무 대롱에 샘 소리가 이어지고

소나무 창문엔 햇빛이 드문드문합니다

 

이르신 높은 경지 노래로 다 할 수는 없지만

눈을 감고 진실로 늘 같으심을 깨닫습니다

 

     주: 지광스님이 누구인지는 확인하지 못했습니다. 고운선생이 신라와 당에서 활동하였기 때문에 두 나라의 불교승려 중에서 찾아보았으나 연대가 비슷한 사람은 찾지 못했습니다. 이 시에 사용한 언어로 보아 동시대가 아닌 스님께 시공을 초월해 드리는 시는 아니라는 생각입니다. 독자들의 도움을 고대합니다.

Ch'oe Ch'i-wōn (857 – 915)

 

"Presented to Reverend Chi-kwang"

 

Having put up a studio by the side of clouds,

You have been sitting in meditation for more than for decades.

 

Your cane never made a trip outside of the mountain;

Your brush stopped communication with the capital.

 

The bamboo pipe is busy with continuous sound of the well spring;

The pine window sash is dark with sparse sunlight.

 

As the state of your cultivation resists a full account in poetry,

I close my eyes and understand, you remain the same all the time.

 

       Note: The identity of Monk Chi-kwang/Zhiguang has yet to be determined.  Judging from the language of the poem, the poet does not seem to attempt a cross-temporal conversation.  I have searched for the name among monks of Shilla and Tang, for the poet was active in both places, but my search proved to be unproductive.  Any related information would be greatly appreciated.
