〈四時詠懷：夏〉

 

修竹清荷池上柳，

暑中避暑何時有。

古來黔首少良方，

拭汗靜心酤淡酒。

"사계절에 마음 속을 노래함: 여름"

 

훤칠한 대나무, 맑은 연꽃,

   연못 위 버드나무…

더위 가운데서 더위를 피하다니

   그런 게 언제 있었지요

 

예로부터 얼굴이 그을은 사람들에겐

   마땅한 방법이 별로 없습니다

땀 훔치고 마음 가라앉힌 다음

   머얼건 술을 조금  받아오는 것 뿐이겠지요

Lofty bamboos, limpid lotus,

   And willow trees on the pond…

Dodging heat in a scorching heat—

   From whence has that been possible?

 

To us, the people of sun-burnt faces,

   Nothing much could be done, except

Wiping off the sweat, calming down,

   And perhaps fetching some mild wine.
