〈御製子規詩〉

 

一自寃禽出帝宮，

孤身隻影碧山中。

假眠夜夜眠無假，

窮恨年年恨不窮。

聲斷曉岑殘月白，

血流春谷落花紅。

天聾尙未聞哀訴，

何奈愁人耳獨聰。

"임금이 지으신 소쩍새 노래"

 

한 맺힌 억울한 새 한 마리

      임금의 궁을 나와

외로운 몸 그림자 하나로

      푸른 산 속을 헤맨다

 

잠 아닌 잠이 밤마다 이어지니

      잠에는 의지할 수 없고

끝까지 가는 한스러움 해를 거듭하니

      그 한스러움에는 끝이 없다

 

소쩍새 소리도 끊긴 새벽 산 봉우리에

      흰 달빛만 남았고

피 흐르는 듯한 봄 계곡으로

      붉은 꽃잎이 떨어진다

 

하늘이 귀를 먹은 것인지

      아직 애통한 호소를 듣지 않고

수심 가득한 이 사람

      귀만 밝으니 그걸 어쩌겠는가

"A Cuckoo Poem by His Majesty"

 

A bird regretfully wronged

        Left the palace of the sovereign,

And is strayed in blue mountains

        As a lone body just with a shadow.

 

Sleeping without really falling asleep day after day,

        I cannot count on sleeping;

Bitter regrets of the bitterest year after year,

        Bitterness is never exhausted.

 

On the mountain peak at daybreak when cuckoos no longer cry,

        Only white moonlight remains;

In the valley of springtime where a blood-like stream flows,

        Red flower petals fall.

 

Heaven may be deafened—

        It has yet to here my grieving pleas.

Only the ear is sharp in this saddened man—

        What can be done about that?
