白頭猶未賦歸天，

十載交遊半九泉。

萬顆金珠方布露，

千尋坑穽尚橫前。

不嫌醫術經三折，

誰笑兵家敗兩甄。

獨撫陳編傷世事，

亢然清坐似深禪。

머리가 허옇게 세었는데

      아직 하늘로 돌아가는 노래를 짓지 않았네요

십 년 동안 사귀던 사람들

      반은 이미 구천으로 갔습니다

 

만 개의 금 구슬이

      이제 막 나타나는데

천 길 구덩이들이

      아직도 앞을 가로지릅니다

 

팔이 세 번 부러져야 의술을 익힌다는

      말은 거리끼지 않습니다

양쪽 날개에서 모두 패했다고 그 전술가를

      누가 비웃을 수 있나요

 

오로지 옛날 책을 쓰다듬으며

      세상일을 아파하지만

꼿꼿이 조용하게 앉으니

      깊이 삼매경에 든 듯합니다

"Thoughts While Sitting Alone," First of Two Poems

 

I haven't written a song of returning to heaven,

        Even when my hair has turned gray.

Of the friends in these ten years,

        Half have already passed to the nether world.

 

Golden beads, thousands of them,

        Have now just appeared;

But pits and traps of a thousand fathoms

        Are lying across before us.

 

I do not mind the idea of the art of medicine

        Obtainable only after three fractures on the arms;

Who could laugh at military experts

        For suffering defeats on both flanks?

 

Just by caressing old books

        Do I share the pain of the world,

But sitting aloft in quietude,

        I feel as though I entered a spiritual concentration.
