〈登清心臺，見石上孤松，有感示李希程〉

 

頑骨巉巉聳碧岑，

危巔獨木不成林。

千秋不改風霜面，

半死猶存雨露心。

托石有根山鬼護，

捫蘿無路野童尋。

憐渠完節渾天畀，

歲暮相看共賞音。

 

               注：李希程為何許人，待查。李滉（號退溪，1501-1570）之三從孫，李希程（1532-1620）年代不合，疑非其人。

고집스럽도록 험준하게

      치솟아 오른 푸른 봉우리

그 위태위태한 꼭대기에 홀로 선 나무는

      수풀을 이루지 못합니다

 

천 번의 가을이 지나도 바뀌지 않는 건

      바람과 서리를 맞는 얼굴;

절반쯤 죽어서도 여전히 지키는 건

      비와 이슬에 젖는 마음

 

돌에 기댄 뿌리가 있으니

      산신들이 보살피고

덩굴에 뒤덮여 길이 없으니

      촌 아이들이 찾아 헤맵니다

 

끝까지 지조를 기꺼이 지키도록

      하늘이 허락하시니

한 해가 저무는 지금 서로 바라보며

      함께 목소리를 음미합니다

 

           주: 시인이 이 시를 보여주었다는 이희정이 어떤 사람인지는 아직 확인하지 못했습니다. 퇴계 이황 (1501-1570)의 삼종손인 이희정 (1532-1620)은 생존한 연대로 볼 때 아닌 것으로 판단됩니다.

"I Ascend the Pure Heart Terrace and See a Lone Pine Tree. I Share the Feelings with Yi Hūi-jōng"

 

Forbiddingly precipitous,

        The green peak towers aloft.

A lone pine tree on its precarious top

        Does not make a woodland.

 

Never changing in a thousand autumns

        Is the face in wind and frost;

Still holding onto even being half-dead

        Is the heart wet with rains and dews.

 

Roots are there, counting on the rocks,

        For the mountain spirits to protect;

Paths to it is not there, covered by vines and runners,

        Making village kids to look for.

 

Treasuring the integrity to preserve to the end

        As heaven's endowment,

We look at each other as the year ends,

        Cherishing the voices together.

 

               Note: The identity of Yi Hūi-jōng has yet to be confirmed.  Yi Hūi-jōng (1532-1620), a descendant of Yi Hwang (1501-1570), despite the fact that all three Chinese characters in the name are identical, will have to be ruled out.  He was only eight when the poet passed away.
