〈述懷〉二首之一

 

曾無一事禆明時，

白髮居然已向衰。

死欲鼎烹誠是妄，

生為噲伍亦堪悲。

當官自媿妨賢久，

問舍空嘆學圃遲。

却笑早年經濟意，

消磨此日竟誰知。

 

       注：三句用文天祥〈正氣歌〉語：「鼎鑊甘如飴，求之不可得。」四句用韓信事。視樊噲跪拜送迎，言稱臣，韓信出門笑曰：「生乃與噲等為伍。」語出《史記·淮陰侯列傳》。

"마음을 풀어 씁니다" 두 수의 첫째

 

밝은 세상을 더욱 밝게 하는데

      무엇 하나 한 일이 없는데

하얗게 센 머리가 어느새

      빠지기 시작합니다

 

죽을 때 끓는 가마솥을 원하는 건

      정말 터무니 없지만

살아서 번쾌 같은 놈과 한편이 되는 것

      역시 참기 어려운 슬픔입니다

 

벼슬을 하면서는 부끄럽게도

      오랜 시간 어진 사람의 길을 막았고

집에 대해 묻다 보니 한탄스럽게도

      뒤늦게야 밭일을 배우고 있네요

 

웃지 못할 건 젊은 시절

      세상을 경영하려는 뜻이 있었다는 것

꺾이고 달아버린 지금

      누가 그걸 알아줄까요

 

     주: 세째 구절은 끓는 가마솥에서 죽는 형벌을 물엿처럼 달게 받는다는 이야기를 이용합니다. 문천상文天祥 (1236-1283)의 〈정기가正氣歌〉참조.  네째 구절은 무릎을 꿇고 자신을 영접하면서 말끝마다 신하를 자처하는 번쾌樊噲를 만난 후 "살아서 저런 놈들과 한 무리가 되다니"하며 웃었다는 한신韓信의 이야기를 씁니다. 《사기史記·회음후열전淮陰侯列傳》에 기록된 이야기입니다.

"Writing Thoughts in My Heart," First of Two Poems

 

Not having made a single contribution

        To the betterment of a bright world,

My hair, which has been turning grey,

        Is now even thinning out.

 

It is really absurd to wish

        A death in a boiling cauldron;

It is unbearably saddening to have

        A life with fellas like Fan Kuai on the same side.

 

Shameful am I to have impeded the career of the wise

        For a long time as a government official;

Lamentable it is that I learn to garden only

        Belatedly as I now inquire about affairs of home.

 

What I cannot but laugh about is

        That I was once aspired to partake in the statecraft.

Who would know that

        Now that I am frayed and worn through?

 

       Note: The second couplet makes use of two allusions. Line #3 refers to a terrible despotic punishment of honorable ministers by boiling them in a cauldron.  An expression of willing acceptance of such a punishment is in the "Song of Unyielding Integrity 正氣歌" by Wen Tianxiang文天祥 (1236-1283)  The matching Line #4 alludes to the story of Han Xin韓信. After seeing Fan Kuai fawning on him by kneeling before him and by calling himself his subject, he sighed, "Laughable it is that I find myself on the same side with fellas like Fan Kuai樊噲." This story is recorded in the "Biography of the Marquis of Huaiyin 淮陰侯列傳" in Sima Qian's Shiji史記.
