〈月下獨酌〉四首之四

 

窮愁千萬端，美酒三百杯。
愁多酒雖少，酒傾愁不來。
所以知酒聖，酒酣心自開。
辭粟臥首陽，屢空飢顏回。
當代不樂飲，虛名安用哉。
蟹螯即金液，糟丘是蓬萊。
且須飲美酒，乘月醉高臺。

 

               注：十一句〈蟹螯〉，是配酒之美菜。《晉書·畢卓傳》：「右手持酒杯，左手持蟹螯，拍浮酒船中，便足了一生矣。」（第三句《世說新語·任誕》作：「拍浮酒池中」。）

꽉 막힌 근심의 시작은 천 군데 만 까닭

좋은 술은 삼 백 잔

근심은 많고 술은 적지만

술잔을 기울이면 근심이 오지 않습니다

그래서 술이 성스럽다는 걸 알지요

술이 거나하면 마음이 스스로 열립니다

곡식을 끊고 수양산에 누운 사람들이나

부질없이 거듭해서 굶주린 안회나

그 당시 술을 즐겨 마시지 않았으니

그 하릴없는 이름을 어디에 쓰겠습니까

게 집게발 안주가 있으면 금빛 신선술이 있고

술지게미로 쌓은 언덕이 바로 신선 섬 봉래산

그러니 이제 근사하게 술을 마셔야지요

높은 누각에서 달빛을 타고 앉아 취하렵니다

 

           주: 열한 번째 구절의 "게 집게발"은 술안주로 매우 좋은 음식입니다. 《진서·필탁전》에 다음과 같은 이야기가 전합니다. "오른손으로 술잔을 들고, 왼손으로 게 집게발을 잡고, 술 위에 띄운 배에서 출렁거리면 이 한 세상 충분한 거지요." (《세설신어·임탄》편은 세째 구절을 "술 연못 안에서 헤엄을 치면"으로 기록합니다.)

"Drinking Alone Under the Moon," Fourth of Four Poems

 

Hopeless sorrows begin from thousands of causes,

But there are only three hundred cups of fine wine—

The number of sorrows exceeds the amount of wine,

But draining the winecup stops sorrows from coming.

This is how I know the holiness of wine.

The tipsy soul opens up by itself.

The fellows who abstained from grain and lay in the Shouyang Mountain,

And Yan Hui who starved repeatedly in vain,

All of them did not drink at those times.

What could be the use of those empty names?

A crab-claw dish shall be matched with celestial elixir of gold;

The mound of distiller's grain is precisely the Fairy Mountain of Penglai.

So now, I shall drink good wines.

I will ride on the moonlight and drink on a high terrace.

 

               Notes: "Crab-claw" in the eleventh line is considered a delicacy to be matched with wine. The "Biography of Bi Zhuo" in the History of Jin Dynasty has this to say: "Holding a wine cup by the right hand, grabbing a crab-claw with the left hand, and floating in a boat on wine. That will do for this life." (The third line in this quotation reads, "Swimming in a wine pond" in the "Rendan" chapter in the Shishuo Xinyu.)
