僅僅一滴，喝了

也就猛地堵住胸膛

還似乎卡在喉嚨

不能吞下也不能吐回

因而什麼也吃不了的順伊媽媽

檢查了半天也沒找到半個毛病

也怕她自己在大驚小怪，說也不敢說她痛

只是吃了不那麼頂用的消化藥

 

姑子和婆婆的邪惡脾氣總讓她懊惱的事情

若透出話，會過意不去，因此從來不吭聲

原來那是說了出來才能開始消失的心口痛

她的心事像水庫破似地沖出來的那天

為了花圃邊小草花般柔嫩無比的心情

能夠變鯨魚腱子那麼堅韌

到底需要吞掉多少湯藥呢

我撫摸撫摸她那有話而未能輕易吐出的心緒

給她開開水閘口

"Ch'ōng-mi's Prescription"

 

Even just a drop could, if she sipped it,

Quickly choke up her chest.

She also felt as if it were stuck in her throat,

And she couldn't swallow it or spit it out.

Thus, Sunyi's mom couldn't eat anything.

Tests and exams found nothing wrong.

She couldn't speak of pain, for she might look like borrowing trouble.

So, she helplessly just took digestives, unlikely to be all that helpful.

 

Stories of her frustration and annoyance at in-law women's vicious temper,

She felt awkward to pass on to anyone,

But that was a chest trouble she could begin to address only through talking.

On the day that she let it out like water over broken dykes,

In order for her heart, callow and tender as little flowers,

To become tough as whale's tendon,

How much herbal medicine should she gulp down?

Patting and caressing, I opened the sluice

Of her heart which had been unable to spit out anything rashly.

가슴이 탁 받치면서

목에 걸린 것 같기도 한데

삼켜지지도 토해지지도 않아서

아무것도 먹을 수 없게 된 순이 엄마

검사를 해봐도 멀쩡하다니

엄살 같아 아프다 말도 못하고

도움 안 되는 위장약만 먹고 있다

 

시누이 시어머니 몽니에 속 끓이는 사정

민망스러워 입 밖으로 내지 않더니

말로 풀어야 없어지는 가슴앓이

봇물처럼 쏟아내던 날

채송화꽃처럼 연하디연한 마음

고래 심줄처럼 튼튼해지려면

얼마나 많은 탕약을 삼켜야 하나

쓰담 쓰담 함부로 뱉지 못한

가슴의 물꼬를 터준다
