〈有感〉

 

幾許敲椎一字詩，文章勞力自今知。

會心政遇磨針處，勤業須從鑿壁時。

萬卷藏來胷界闊，三江倒處筆端奇。

空虛愧我無精藝，到此方嗟悔恨遲。

 

注：頷聯用事二則成對仗。起句用李白遇老媼〈鐵杵磨針〉之傳說。事載於南宋祝穆《方輿勝覽》、晚明曹學佺《蜀中名勝記》等。對句用漢匡衡〈鑿壁偷光〉事。匡衡勤學而無燭，穿壁引鄰舍之光，以書映光而讀書之事，見《西京雜記》。

"느낀 바 있어서"

 

몇 번이나 한 글자 한 글자

         두드리고 다듬으며 시를 지었나요

그런데 이제야 글쓰기에는

         공을 들여야 함을 알겠습니다

 

마음으로 깨우치면

         바로 쇠를 갈아 바늘 만들 곳을 만나고;

열심히 공부하려면

         반드시 벽에 구멍을 낸 때를 따릅니다

 

만 권의 책을 소장하면

         마음의 폭이 넓어지고

세 강 물길 휘돌아 흐르는 듯

         붓끝의 움직임이 기묘합니다

 

세련된 예술의 경지에 다다르지 못한

         공허함이 부끄럽습니다

지금에 이르러 비로소 탄식하고

         후회한다 해도 너무 늦었습니다

 

주: 둘째 연에서는 두 개의 이야기가 댓구를 이룹니다. 셋째 구절은 이태백이 쇠 절굿공이를 갈아 바늘을 만들겠다고 한 노파를 만나 포기했던 공부를 다시 시작했다는 "철저마침 (鐵杵磨針)"의 이야기를 씁니다. 남송 때 축목 (祝穆)이 지은 방여승람 (方輿勝覽)、명나라 말기 조학전(曹學佺)이 편한 촉중명승기(蜀中名勝記) 등의 책에 수록되었습니다.  넷째 구절은 한나라 광형(匡衡)이 가난해 촛불을 구할 수 없던 광형이 벽에 구멍을 뚫어 이웃의 촛불로 책을 읽었다는 "착벽투광(鑿壁偷光)"의 고사입니다. 서경잡기(西京雜記)에 수록되어 있습니다.

"For I Have Felt"

 

How many times have I chiseled and polished

            Word by word for my poems?

But only now I realize

            Writing takes hard work.

 

Comprehending by heart lets us encounter

            A place to grind an iron pestle to make a needle;

Studying diligently must take the chance

            To make a hole on the wall.

 

Assembling ten-thousand volumes of books

            Expands the mind,

As the whirling flow of three rivers,

            My pen moves marvelously.

 

Feeling hollow for not having reached

            The level of artfulness in poetry is embarrassing.

It is too late to heave a sigh

            And regret, only now.

 

Note: The second couplet, in executing parallelism, employs two allusions.  The third line uses the story of "grinding an iron pestle to make a needle."  Li Bai (李白, 701-762), who had given up his study encountered an old women who tried to make a needle by grinding an iron pestle.  Li Bai went back to study, stimulated by the woman.  The matching line uses the story of Kuang Heng (匡衡, first century, BCE), who, being unable to afford a candle, made a hole on his walls to use the candlelight of a neighbor in order to read into the night.
