〈論詩詩〉

 

驚人詩語為何求，

下筆無神我不愁。

間或清心懷喜悦，

微微笑影更甘休。

반빈

 

"시를 이야기하는 시"

 

사람을 놀라게 하는 시의 언어를

      무얼 위해 찾으려 하나요

붓을 움직이는데 신명이 나지 않아도

      나는 시름하지 않습니다

어쩌다 마음을 맑게 해

      기쁨을 품을 수 있으면 하고

지긋하게 웃는 모습이 보이면

      더욱 달갑게 마음을 놓겠습니다

 

           주: 첫 두 구절은 "내 시어가 사람들을 놀라게 하지 않으면 죽어도 쉬지 못한다 語不驚人死不休", "책 만 권을 읽으니 붓을 움직이는데 신명이 나는 듯하다 讀書破萬卷，下筆如有神"고 말한 두보(杜甫, 712-770)의 시론을 따르지 않겠다고 말합니다.

"A Poem on Poetry"

 

For what purpose shall I seek

        Words that will startle people?

I wouldn't be agonized

        Even if my pen is not spirited in its movement.

I just hope that my mind is cleared now and then

        And harbors joys in the bosom.

I will be happily satisfied

        By a look of gentle smile.

 

               Note: The first two lines express indifference to Du Fu's ideas of poetry reflected in the following two phrases: 1) "I would not rest even after death, if my words do not startled people."; 2) "Having read through ten-thousand scrolls of books, I felt as though my writing was spirited."
