雲

 

無心舒捲任風吹，鶴翅龍鱗變化奇。

畫意自生新雨後，錦紋多在夕陽時。

巫山行入襄王夢，汾水飛成漢帝辭。

一片莫教來點綴，今宵明月是佳期。

 

注：頸聯兩句各用宋玉〈高唐賦〉、漢武帝〈秋風辭〉事。〈秋風辭〉首句曰：「秋風起兮白雲飛」。

"구름"

 

별 생각 없이 바람 부는 대로

   펼쳐졌다 다시 감기고

학의 날개로, 용의 비늘로

   기묘하게 변하고 바뀝니다

 

그림으로 그리려는 마음이 절로 이는 건

   내리던 비가 막 그친 후;

비단 무늬가 많아지는 건

   해가 저무는 때

 

무산의 선녀로 가서

   초나라 양왕의 꿈에 들고;

분하에서 날아

   한나라 무제의 노래를 이룹니다

 

한 조각이라도 와서

   꾸미려 하지 말라 하세요

오늘 밤에는 밝은 달과

   좋은 기약을 했습니다

 

주: 세째 연 두 구절의 출전은 각각 송옥(宋玉, 전국시대후기)의 〈고당부(高唐賦)〉와 한무제(漢武帝)의 〈추풍사(秋風辭)〉입니다.  〈고당부〉는 서문에서 초나라의 옛 왕이 고당에서 낮잠을 자는 중 무산의 선녀를 만나 운우의 정을 나누었는데 그 선녀는 작별하면서 「해가 뜨면 아침 구름이 되었다가 저녁에는 비를 내리겠습니다(旦為朝雲，暮為行雨)」라고 말했는데, 왕이 아침에 보니 그 말처럼 되어 사당을 짓고 〈조운(朝雲)〉이라 하였다는 이야기를 전합니다. 분하(汾河)에서 지었다는 〈추풍사〉는 「가을 바람이 일고 흰 구름이 난다 (秋風起兮白雲飛)」라는 구절로 시작합니다.

"Clouds"

 

Unwittingly unfolding, and folding again,

   Letting the wind do what it may,

From crane's wings to dragon's scales,

   Changes and mutations are uncanny.

 

The rise of intent to capture them in painting

   Is right after the rain ceases;

The increase of the brocade patterns

   Occurs around the time when the sun sets.

 

Goddess of Wushan moves

   To enter the dream of King Xiang of Chu;

Flying up at the Fen River

   To complete the song of Emperor Wu of Han.

 

Let not even a single piece

   To come to decorate,

For tonight I have

   A date with the bright moon.

 

Notes: The two lines in the third couplet respectively allude to the "Song of Gaotang (高唐賦)" by Song Yu (宋玉), and the "Song of Autumn Wind (秋風辭)" by Emperor Wudi of Han (漢武帝).  The preface of the "Song of Gaotang" relays the story of an encounter between a Chu king and a goddess of Wushan.  After their romantic encounter in the dream, the goddess bid farewell by saying that she would be a morning cloud at the sunrise, and a rain in the evening (旦為朝雲，暮為行雨).  The beginning line of the "Song of Autumn Wind" says, "An autumn wind rises, and white clouds fly (秋風起兮白雲飛)."
