〈奉寄徐學長起〉

 

手把古人書，長吟遠遊賦。

流光駟不及，倐爾瑤華暮。

余生已強半，子志亦多迕。

碧雲忽迢遞，含情向誰訴。

 

               注：徐起（1523-1591）亦出身寒族，雖才能出衆，未能出仕，流浪各地，研究實用學問。

 

박지화 (자는 군실, 호는 수암, 1513-1592)

 

"서기 선배에게 삼가 드립니다"

 

손에는 옛사람들의 책을 들고

느릿하게 먼 곳으로 가는 노래를 읊으셨지요

시간의 흐름은 네 필 말이 끌어도 따르지 못하니

어느덧 백옥 같은 꽃도 저물 때가 되었습니다

내 삶은 이미 반도 더 지나갔고

그대의 뜻 역시 많이 어긋났지요

흰 구름 문득 멀어지니

마음에 담은 생각은 누구에게 쏟아내나요

 

           주: 서기 (1523-1592)는 출신이 빈한해 재능이 남달랐지만 벼슬을 할 수 없었고, 여러 곳을 유랑했고, 실용적인 학문을 연구했습니다.

Holding in your hand books of ancient people,

You've been singing the song of sauntering far off.

Time flows, outpacing us even if we're drawn by four horses,

And before we know, flowers charming as jade reach the time to wither.

My life is done already more than its half;

Your will has also been contradicted so often.

White clouds are suddenly far away.

To whom shall I pour out the thoughts harbored in the heart?

 

               Note: Sō Ki (1523-1592) was unable to serve in official positions, despite his extraordinary talents, for he came from a lowly class.  He wandered to many places, and studied matters of practical use.
