小奴縛雞向市賣，

雞被縛急相喧爭。

家中厭雞食蟲蟻，

不知雞賣還遭烹。

蟲雞於人何厚薄，

吾叱奴人解其縛。

雞蟲得失無了時，

注目寒江倚山閣。

"꽁꽁 묶인 닭의 노래"

 

어린 종녀석이 닭들을 잡아 묶어

      장에 내다 팔려고 한답니다

꽁꽁 묶인 닭들은 급해서

      서로 다투듯 소란을 떱니다

집안 사람들은 닭이

      벌레나 개미를 잡아 먹는 게 싫다지만

팔려가면 닭들도

      푹 삶아지게 되는 걸 모르나 봅니다

벌레나 닭을 사람과 비교하면

      어느 쪽이 후하고 어느 쪽이 각박한가요

나는 종녀석에게 소리질러

      묶은 닭을 풀어주라고 합니다

닭과 벌레 중 누가 얻고 누가 잃는지

      이야기가 끝이 없을 때

나는 싸늘한 강을 뚫어지게 보면서

      산 속 누각에 기댑니다

"A Song of Chickens Tied Up"

 

A young bondsman is catching and tying up chickens

        To take them to sell at the marketplace.

Chickens tied up firmly are frightened

        And make uproarious noise as if yelling at each other.

People at home say that they hate

        The chickens pecking at worms and ants,

But they do not seem to realize

        That chickens get boiled when they're sold.

If worms and chickens are compared to people,

        Which side is well or badly off?

I bawl at the bondsman

        To let him untie the chickens.

When the talk of chickens and worms

        As to which side gains or loses goes on mindlessly,

I look out at the chill river,

        And lean on a pavilion in the mountain.
