閒詠

 

終南小屋結幽期，滿案詩書卽我師。

月裏寒聲孤鴈過，雪中春意早梅知。

計無狡兔營三窟，身似鷦鷯足一枝。

舊學未能真是病，十年勤苦竟何為。

 

注：頸聯兩句〈狡兔三窟〉與〈鷦鷯足一枝〉各出自《戰國策》〈齊策〉與《莊子》〈逍遙遊〉。

 

 

죽서 박씨

 

"한가롭게 읊조리는 노래"

 

종남산에 오두막을 짓자고

   은밀히 기약했지요

책상 위에 가득한 시와 서신이

   저를 이끌어 줍니다

 

달빛 아래 차가운 소리로

   외로운 기러기 지나가고;

눈 속 봄기운은

   이른 매화가 알겠지요

 

꾀가 없으니 영리한 토끼처럼

   굴을 셋 파지 않을 것이고;

몸이 조그만 굴뚝새를 닮아

   나뭇가지 하나면 충분합니다.

 

옛날의 학문을 익힐 수 없었던 건

   참으로 병이었습니다.

십 년을 열심히 노력했지만

   도대체 무엇을 한 것일까요

 

주: 다섯째와 여섯째 구절의 "영리한 토끼는 세 개의 굴을 판다"와 "굴뚝새는 가지 하나면 족하다"는 말의 출전은 각각《전국책》〈제책〉과《장자》〈소요유〉편입니다.

"A Song Leisurely Chanted"

 

The promise between just you and me

   To put up a hut in the South Mountain—

Your poems and letters filling my desk

   Have been my guide.

 

A lone goose would pass by

   With a chill honk under the moon light;

The early plum flowers would know

   The force of spring in the snow.

 

Lacking the wit of the shrewd hare,

   Three dens I would not dig;

The body as little as a wren,

   A single branch would suffice me.

 

That I could not get trained in ancient learning

   Was truly a malady.

What have I achieved

   By ten years of vigorous toil?
