박인량,"오자서의 사당 伍子胥廟"

朴寅亮（字代天，高麗中期之大臣，生年不詳，1051年及第，1096年沒）

 

〈伍子胥廟〉

 

掛眼東門憤未消，

碧江千古起波濤。

今人不識前賢志，

但問潮頭幾尺高。

 

               注：〈抉目懸門/抉目東門〉之成語，出自《史記》 二處 ，〈吳太伯世家〉及〈伍子胥列傳〉，內容略同。〈伍子胥列傳〉：（吳王）使使賜伍子胥屬鏤之劍，曰：「子以此死。」⋯⋯（伍子胥）告其舍人曰：「必樹吾墓上以梓，令可以為器；而抉吾眼縣吳東門之上，以觀越寇之入滅吳也。」

"오자서의 사당"

 

눈알을 동쪽 문에 매달아두고도

      분이 풀리지 않았는지

푸른 강 높은 파도가

      천 년을 이어옵니다

지금은 사람들이

      지난날 어진이들의 뜻을 알지 못하고

그저 밀물 물마루가

      얼마나 높으냐고 물을 뿐입니다

 

           주: "눈알을 파서 문에 건다"는 뜻의 "결목현문/결목동문"은 사마천 《사기》의 두 곳, 〈오태백세가〉와〈오자서열전〉에 나오는데 내용은 대동소이합니다. 〈오자서열전〉: "(오왕이) 사람을 보내 오자서에게 촉려검을 내려, '그대는 이 칼로 자결하라'는 말을 전했다……. (오자서는) 그의 문객들에게 '내 묘지 위에는 반드시 가래나무를 심어 관을 만들어 쓸 수 있게 하고, 내 눈알을 파내 오나라 동쪽 문에 걸어 월나라 오랑캐들이 쳐들어와 오나라를 멸하는 걸 볼 수 있게 해 주게'라고 말했다."

"A Shrine for Wu Zixu"

 

The indignation must have remained unallayed,

        Even with his eyeballs hanging on the east gate.

Billowing waves of the blue river

        Never subsided for a thousand years.

People these days do not understand

        The lofty intent of the virtuous,

And only ask about

        The height of the crest of a high tide.

 

               Note: The idiomatic phrase, "gouging the eyeballs to hang them on the gate," comes from two places in the Shiji, "Accounts of Hereditary House of the Wu" and "A Biography of Wu Zixu." The stories relayed are more or less the same. Wu Zixu's biograph says: "(King of Wu) sent someone to give the Zhulou Sword to Wu Zixu to tell him to commit suicide…… (Wu Zixu) told guest scholars at his place, 'A catalpa tree shall be planted on my burial mound, so that a coffin can be made of it. My eyeballs shall be gouged to hang on the east gate, so that I can watch the invaders from Yue eliminating Wu.'"
