임종비,"솔바람 정자의 드러누운 소나무, 어떤 사람의 운을 빌어 松風亭偃松，次人韻"

林宗庇（生卒年不詳，1142及第）

 

〈松風亭偃松，次人韻〉

 

松偃老幽谷，風傳萬壑悲。

乾坤自得疾，霜雪不渝姿。

未遂大夫願，寧求匠石知。

軒然眞傲世，獨與白雲期。

 

               注：五句用《史記·秦始皇本紀》之事。秦始皇東巡封禪於泰山，遇風雨，避之於五松樹下，遂封其樹為五大夫松。六句用《莊子·徐無鬼》名叫石之工匠事。其運斧出神入化，削郢人鼻端之汙泥，絲毫未傷及鼻。

"솔바람 정자의 드러누운 소나무, 어떤 사람의 운을 빌어"

 

소나무가 드러누워 늙은 그윽한 골짜기,

바람이 만 갈래 계곡의 슬픔을 전합니다

 

하늘과 땅 사이에서 저절로 병을 얻었지만

서리에도 눈에도 모습을 바꾸지 않습니다

 

대부가 되는 희망은 이루어지지 않았지요

그러나 어떻게 도끼장인 석이 알아주기를 구하나요

 

당당하게 세상을 내려다 보며

오로지 흰 구름과 어울립니다

 

           주: 다섯째 행은 《사기· 진시황본기》에 나오는 고사를 이용합니다. 진시황이 태산에서 봉선의 예를 올리고 내려왔을 때 비바람을 만나 소나무 아래서 비를 피하고 후일 그 소나무에게 대부의 작위를 내렸다고 합니다. 여섯째 행의 석장은 《장자· 서무귀》에 등장하는 "석"이라는 이름의 장인입니다. 도끼를 잘 써서 사람의 코끝에 있는 오물을 도끼로 제거했는데, 전혀 코를 다치지 않게 했다고 합니다.

"A Pine Tree Lying on Its Back by Breeze Through Pine Trees Pavilion, Using Someone's Rhyming"

 

In a quiet valley where a pine tree lay and grew old,

Wind passes on the grief of myriad glens.

 

It fell ill alone between heaven and earth,

Yet neither frost nor snow could change the form.

 

High ambitions of becoming a senior official were never realized,

But should it ever court the eye of Shi, Master of the Ax?

 

So majestic, looking down on the world,

It keeps company only with the white clouds.

 

               Notes: The third couplet uses two stories recorded respectively in the "Basic Annals of the First Emperor" in the Shiji and the "Xuwugui" chapter of the Zhuangzi. The First Emperor encountered a heavy rain, coming down from Taishan Mountain where he offered a Fengshan sacrifice. Five pine trees helped him dodge the rain, and were later named senior officials. Artisan Shi in the following line was skillful in using axes.  He could remove dirt on someone's nose with an ax without hurting him.
