高兆基（初名唐愈，號鷄林，謚號文敬，？-1157，1107及第）

 

〈寄遠〉

 

錦字裁成寄玉關，

勸君珍重好加飱。

封侯自是男兒事，

不斬樓蘭未擬還。

 

               注：首句玉關，即玉門關，通往西域之關隘。尾句樓蘭為古代西域國名。

편지글 수놓은 비단을 바느질해

      서역 가는 길 옥문관으로 보냅니다

부디 몸을 아끼시고

      음식을 잘 드십시오

작위를 받는 게 원래

      남자들의 일이긴 하지만

누란국을 베지 않고

      돌아 오시리라 생각하지 않습니다

 

           주: 첫 행의 옥관은 옥문관, 중국에서 서역으로 통하는 길의 관문입니다. 마지막 행의 누란은 서역에 있던 옛 나라의 이름입니다.

"To One Far Away"

 

I sew up a letter embroidered on silk

        To send to the Jade Pass,

Praying that you'd take care of yourself

        And eat well.

I am mindful that noble titles and enfeoffments

        Are pursuits of men,

But I never expect you to return

        Before you have crushed Loulan.

 

               Notes: Jade Pass, or Yumen Pass, in the first line was a gate to western frontier on the Silk Road, west of Dunhuang. Loulan, in the last line, was the name of the ancient Shanshan State, located in the present Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It impeded Han's attempt to communicate with Dayuan, which existed in Ferghana valley in Central Asia.
