〈宿金壤縣〉

 

烏語霜林曉，風驚客塌眠。

簷殘半規月，人在一涯天。

落葉埋歸路，寒枝掛宿烟。

江東行未盡，秋盡水村邊。

"금양현에 묵으며"

 

까마귀 울고 서리 내리는 숲 속의 새벽

바람에 놀라 나그네가 잠에서 깹니다

 

처마에 반원의 달이 남아있고

나는 하늘 한쪽 끝에 있습니다

 

낙엽이 돌아갈 길을 덮었고

찬 나뭇가지에 밤안개가 걸렸습니다

 

강 동쪽으로의 여정은 아직 멀었는데

물가 마을에서는 가을이 저물겠지요

 

           주: 《동문선》에는 첫 행의 "까마귀 운다烏語"가 "새가 운다鳥語"로, 네째 행은 "하늘 한쪽 끝에서 꿈이 깬다夢斷一涯天"로 수록되어 있습니다.

At daybreak in the woods where crows cry and frost forms,

Wind startles the traveler, breaking his sleep.

 

By the eaves lingers a half-moon;

I stand at an end of the sky.

 

Fallen leaves have buried the path home;

From chill branches hangs the night mist.

 

The journey east of the river is far from over,

Yet autumn must be ending in my waterside village.

 

               Notes: Tong-mun-sōn, "Selected Poems from the East," records a variant text, with "crows cry" as "birds cry," in the first line, and the fourth line as "my dream is disturbed at an end of the sky."
