정습명,"기녀에게 주는 노래 贈妓"

鄭襲明（號滎陽，1094？–1151）

 

〈贈妓〉

 

百花叢裏淡丰容，

忽被狂風减却紅。

獺髓未能醫玉頰，

五陵公子恨無窮。

 

               注：題或作〈贈南州被燒灼妓〉。相傳某郡守恐離職後愛妓將被人佔取，以蠟燭燒灼其臉，詩人聞之，作此七絕贈之。三句用吳國孫和（224-253）事。孫和悅鄧夫人，常置膝上，月下舞水精如意，誤傷夫人臉頰，後致百金購得白獺髓，能醫其瘡。（《拾遺記》卷八）尾句五陵，原為長陵、安陵、陽陵、茂陵、平陵等漢代五皇帝之陵墓。後因漢廷施行高官富商、名門望族遷往居住皇陵周圍之徙民實陵策，變富人區、豪門貴族之意。

"기녀에게 주는 노래"

 

온갖 예쁜 꽃의 무리 속 단아한 모습이

급작스런 미친 바람에 발그레한 상처로 남았구나

수달의 골수도 고치지 못하는 옥 같은 뺨 때문에

오릉의 귀공자들 안타까움이 한이 없겠네

 

           주: 제목을 "남주에서 불에 덴 기생에게 주는 노래"라고 붙인 텍스트도 있습니다. 자신이 전근하면 훗날 다른 남자의 사랑을 받을 것을 지레 질투한 지방수령이 아끼던 기녀의 뺨을 촛불로 지졌다는 이야기를 듣고 그 기녀에게 준 노래로 알려져 있습니다. 세째 행의 수달 골수는 오나라 손화 (孫和, 224-253)의 이야기에서 옵니다. 손화는 등부인을 사랑해 늘 무릎을 떠나지 못하게 했는데, 달빛 아래서 수정여의라는 춤을 추다가 잘못해 부인의 얼굴을 다치게 했고, 큰 돈을 들여 흰 수달의 골수를 구해서야 그 상처를 치료할 수 있었다 합니다. (《습유기》) 마지막 행의 오릉은 장릉, 안릉, 양릉, 무릉, 평릉 등 한나라 황제 다섯의 묘가 있는 지역을 말하는데, 한나라 조정이 부유하고 지위 높은 사람들을 그 주위로 이주시키는 정책을 써 부유층, 귀족층이 사는 곳이라는 뜻으로 쓰이게 되었습니다.

"Presented to an Entertainer-Girl"

 

A decent poise amidst a hundred flowers suddenly suffered

From a maddening gale and was left with a rosy wound.

Even otter's marrow couldn't heal the jade-like cheeks,

Making young noblemen of Five Mausolea to be deeply regretful.

 

               Notes: This poem is identified by alternative titles, including, "Presented to an Entertainer-Girl in South Prefecture Who Suffered a Burn." This poem is known to be presented to an entertainer, loved by the governor, who scorched her face for the fear of other men loving her after he left the post.  The third line alludes to the story of Sun He (224-253), who injured Lady Deng by his mistake while dancing to a music, "Water Spirit Is Satisfying." Only by otter's marrow obtained at a very high cost, the wound could be healed. Five Mausolea in the last line is the area where Han Emperors Gaozu, Huidi, Jingdi, Wudi, and Zhaodi were buried. The Han court put into force a policy to relocate rich and noble families to the area, and the name earned another meaning related to residential areas of affluent families.
