강백년,"눈雪을 노래합니다 咏雪"

姜栢年（字叔久，號雪峯，又號閒溪、清月軒，諡號文貞，1603-1681）

 

〈咏雪〉

 

頃刻飄颻一尺強，

素封原野浩茫茫。

擧隅天下應猶是，

施博神工爲底忙。

寒玉散庭驚有響，

飛花着樹怪無香。

此時安得乘淸興，

遍踏離山萬仞岡。

 

               注：尾句〈離山〉為何地何山，尚待確認。或許是位於韓國忠清北道與慶尚北道邊界之俗離山。俗離山是勝景，別稱不少，但未能確認稱之為〈離山〉之用例。

"눈雪을 노래합니다"

 

휘몰아치더니 순식간에

      한 자도 넘게 쌓여

깨끗한 색으로 덮인 들판이

      끝없이 넓게 펼쳐지네요

 

한 구석이 이러니 하늘 아래가

      모두 비슷하겠지요;

넓게 펼치는 신비로운 힘은

      무얼 위해 저렇게 분주한가요

 

차가운 옥이 뜰에 흩어지는

      소리가 들려 놀라고;

날리는 꽃이 나무에 붙지만

      향기가 없다고 탓합니다

 

이럴 때 어떻게 하면

      맑은 기분을 타고

리산 길고 긴 바위능선을

      두루 걸을 수 있을까요

 

           주: 마지막 행의 리산離山이 어디에 있는 어떤 산인지 확인하지 못했습니다. 글자의 뜻으로 보면 "떠나는 산"이므로 "속세를 떠나는" 또는 "세속적인 것이 떠나간" 산이란 뜻의 속리산俗離山일 수 있겠지만, 속리산의 많은 별칭 중에 리산이란 이름이 쓰인 용례는 찾지 못했습니다.

"A Poem on Snow"

 

Falling in whirls,

        More than a foot is piled up in no time,

And the field covered in the pure color

        Extends endlessly.

 

One corner being like this, everywhere under the sky,

        I suppose, would be just about the same;

The mysterious power that spreads so wide,

        For what is it so lively?

 

The chill jade getting scattered in the courtyard—

        I am amazed by the sound;

The flying flowers that stick to trees—

        I fault them for having no scent.

 

How could I, on an occasion as this,

        Ride on the refreshing feelings,

And walk through everywhere on the long

        Rocky ridges in the Leave Mountain?

 

               Note: The location and the full name of Li-san Mountain in the last line, translated here as Leave Mountain, have yet to be determined. The literal meaning of the name in this poem, "to leave," suggests that it refers to Song-ni-san, literally "leaving the secular," may be a good candidate.  It is a very scenic mountain, and is known by many alternative names. However, I was unable to find any actual usage of Li-san to refer to Song-ni-san.
