〈贈梓谷蘭若獨居僧〉

 

除聽松風耳不喧，

結茅深倚白雲根。

世人知路翻應恨，

石上莓苔汚屐痕。

 

               注：梓谷蘭若可能是位於唐長安終南山。孤雲留學長安時，有給蘭若修行之僧侶贈詩之風，杜牧（約803-852）〈贈終南蘭若僧〉比較有名。孤雲留下了數首這類作品。

솔바람 소리 듣는 것 외에

      귓가 소란스러울 일 없는 곳에

초가를 얽어 흰 구름의 뿌리에

      깊숙이 기대셨습니다

세상 사람들이 오는 길을 알게 될까

      오히려 조바심 하시지요

돌 위 이끼가

      나막신 흔적으로 더럽혀질 테니까요

 

           주: 재곡난야는 당나라 장안의 종남산에 있었던 것으로 추정합니다. 최치원이 장안에 유학할 당시 산속 난야에서 수행하는 스님에게 시를 써 드리는 일이 유행이었습니다. 그중 두목(杜牧, 803?-852)의 "종남난야의 스님께 드린다" 가 잘 알려져 있습니다.  고운도 이런 종류의 작품을 여러 수 남겼습니다.

"Presented to a Monk Living Alone at the Catalpa Valley Temple"

 

Where no noise other than the breeze

        Through pine branches reaches your ears,

You put up a thatched hut

        And lean deeply on the root of white clouds.

You would certainly resent

        If people in the world learn the way to come here,

For the moss on rocks

        Could be stained by the traces of their clogs.

 

               Note: Zigu Lanre (梓谷蘭若), translated here as the Catalpa Valley Temple, seems to have been in the Zhongnan Mountain near Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. Presenting a poem to a monk in such an isolated temple was fashionable when the poet studied in Chang'an. A poem by Du Mu (803?-852), "Presented to a Monk in Zhongnan Temple," was well known.  The poet left several poems in this genre.
