강백년,"홀로 읊는 노래 獨吟"

姜栢年（字叔久，號雪峯，又號閒溪、清月軒，諡號文貞，1603-1681）

 

〈獨吟〉

 

人倫天道元非二，

不息都由一箇誠。

忠恕本來爲體用，

智仁端是貴知行。

幾微善惡能眞辨，

發處公私便自明。

俯仰乾坤胸次闊，

游魚飛鳥摠呈形。

 

강백년 (자는 숙구, 호는 설봉, 한계, 청월헌, 시호는 문정, 1603-1681)

사람 사이에 지킬 도리와 하늘의 길은

      원래 다르지 않고

꾸준히 쉬지 않고 가려면

      오직 하나, 진정함 뿐입니다

 

나를 아끼는 만큼 마음을 다해 사람들을 위함이

      본래 실체이고 기능이며

슬기롭고 인자함은

      반드시  아는 것을 실천함을 귀하게 여깁니다

 

좋고 나쁨은 세밀한   부분까지

      진실로 분별할 수 있고

공과 사는 차이가 생기는 곳을

      스스로 밝혀 알아야 합니다

 

하늘을 우러르고 땅을 내려다 보며

      마음을 넓게 하고

헤엄치는 물고기와 나는 새들은

      드러나는 모습을 두루 알아야겠지요

Rules of human relationship and the way of heaven

        Are from the beginning not different from each other.

Unceasing principles of conduct

        All come from the one and only sincerity.

 

Doing unto others what I want them to do unto me

        Is essentially the substance and its function;

Wisdom and humanness do definitely

        Value knowledge and putting that into practice.

 

The good and the bad shall be discerned

        All the way to their subtleties;

The public and the private must be clear

        From where they arise.

 

Looking up and down heaven and earth,

        I wish to broaden my mind.

Fish swinging and birds flying,

        I want to learn the form in which they appear.
