강백년,"산속의 집 山家"

姜栢年（字叔久，號雪峯，又號閒溪、清月軒，諡號文貞，1603-1681）

 

〈山家〉

 

否泰憂歡摠自如，

山家長物只琴書。

夜來看取秋潭月，

任運淸光徹太虛。

 

               注：首句否、泰，分別為《周易》之第十二否卦天地不交之象，與第十一泰卦天地交之象也。

"산속의 집"

 

꼭 막혔다는 점괘이든 다 이루어진다는 점괘이든

      근심이든 기쁨이든 언제나 자유롭습니다

산속의 집에 오래오래 지니고 있는 것은

      오로지 가야금과 책

밤에는 가을 못에 비친

      달을 보고 가져다

맑은 빛에 갈 길을 맡기어

      깊은 어두움의 이치를 꿰뚫습니다

 

           주: 첫 행의 비否와 태泰는 각각《주역》 열 두 번째 괘인 비괘와 열 한 번째 괘인 태괘입니다. 비괘는 하늘과 땅이 교합하지 못하는 모습이고, 태괘는 하늘과 땅이 서로 통하는 모습입니다.

"An Abode in the Mountain"

 

Be it an oracle of obstruction, or one of greatness,

        Be it stressful, or joyous, I am always by myself.

What I have had at the abode in the mountain for long

        Are just zithers and books.

In the night, I go see the moon

        Reflected in the autumn pond,

And entrust my destiny to its clear light,

        And penetrate with it the principle of profound darkness.

 

               Note: The beginning line mentions two graphs, #12 Pi and #11 Tai, in the Yijing, or the Book of Changes. Graph #12, Pi, shows the image of heaven and earth moving in opposite directions, and Graph #11, Tai, the image of heaven and earth coming to engage with each other.
