〈白馬江懷古〉二首

 

一、

遊人偏倚曲欄西，

潮落寒沙日欲低。

江鳥似知亡國恨，

飛來飛去百般啼。

 

二、

無復瓊樓聳半天，

螭階花礎帶蝸涎。

濟王陳迹憑誰問，

但見江波打釣船。

유람객들은 한사코 구불구불한

      난간에 기대 서쪽을 향하는데

물 빠진 차디찬 모래밭으로

      해가 기울려 합니다

나라를 잃은 서러움을

      아는 듯 강의 새들은

이리로 저리로 날며

      온갖 목소리로 울어댑니다

 

2.

하늘 한 가운데로 솟아오른

      옥궁전은 이제 다시는 없고

이무기 문양 계단과 꽃 장식 기둥받침에는

      달팽이가 남긴 점액이 보입니다

백제왕의 옛날 흔적을

      누구를 붙들고 물을 수 있나요

고깃배 두드리는

      강 물결이 보일 뿐인데

"Reminiscing the Bygone at the White Horse River" Two Poems

 

1.

Everywhere on the meandering railings,

        Tourists lean over and face west,

And into the chill sand beach at low tide,

        The sun is about to dip down.

As if understanding the bitter resentments

        Of losing the kingdom,

Birds over the river fly back and forth

        Crying in a riot of a hundred voices.

 

2.

The jade palace soaring up into the middle of the sky

        Is no longer there now,

And stone stairs of serpentine patterns and

        Pedestals with carved flowers collect snail trails.

Who is there to ask about

        The traces of Paek-che kings,

When I see only the waves in the river

        Beating fishing boats?

 

        Note: Paek-che (18 BCE-660 CE) is one of the three kingdoms, which controlled the southwestern part of the Korean peninsula, until Shil-la (57 BCE-935 CE), another of the three kingdoms, unified them all.
