〈訪友〉

 

自遠方來問為何，

學而時習墨同磨。

有朋知我誰需慍，

不缺稱觴勸詠歌。

 

               注：《論語·學而》首章：「學而時習之，不亦說乎？有朋自遠方來，不亦樂乎？人不知而不慍，不亦君子乎？」

반빈

 

"찾아온 친구"

 

먼 곳에서 찾아온 친구에게

      무슨 일로 왔느냐 물었습니다

배우고 그것을 때에 맞게 실천하며

      함께 먹을 갈려고 왔답니다

나를 알아주는 친구가 있는데

      어떤 사람이 화를 낼 필요가 있겠습니까

물론 술잔을 들어 건배하며

      노래 부르라고 청하는 건 소홀할 수 없지요

 

               주: 《논어·학이》첫 구절: "배우고 때에 맞추어 실천하니 기쁘지 않은가? 멀리서 찾아오는 친구가 있으니 즐겁지 않은가? 사람들이 알아주지 않아도 성나지 않으니 군자가 아닌가?"

"Visiting Friends"

 

Friends come from afar,

        And I ask what brings them here.

For learning, for a timely practice of the lessons,

        And for preparing ink together.

There are friends who know me,

        And who would need to be irritated?

Of course, we would not be negligent

        Of offering toasts and urging to sing.

 

               Note: This poem uses the first passage of the first chapter in the Analects: "To learn and to put the lesson into practice in a timely way: is this not a joy? To have a friend visiting from afar: is this not a pleasure? Not to be irritated when people do not recognize the learning: is this not a mark of a cultivating person?"
