〈看蔣國樑詩獎主題想起至聖〉

 

興觀群怨可依詩，

事父事君胥以之。

處處開花知草木，

聞鳴鳥獸喜相隨。

 

               注：子曰：「小子何莫學夫詩，詩可以興，可以觀，可以群，可以怨。邇之事父，遠之事君，多識於鳥獸草木之名。」（《論語·陽貨》）

반빈

 

"장국량시상의 주제를 보며 공자님을 생각합니다"

 

영감을 주고받고, 살피고, 어울리고, 따지는 것

      모두 시에 의지할 수 있고

부모를 모시고 임금을 섬기는 것도

      다 시로 할 수 있답니다

여기저기 꽃이 피는

      풀도 나무도 알고

새와 짐승들 기쁘게 서로 따르며

      우짖는 소리를 듣습니다

 

           주: 공자는 시에 대해서 다음과 같이 이야기합니다. "너희들은 어째서 시를 공부하지 않느냐? 시로써 영감을 주고받을 수 있고, 세상을 살필 수 있고, 사람들과 어울릴 수 있고, 잘못을 지적할 수 있다. 가깝게는 부모를 모실 수 있고, 멀게는 임금을 섬길 수 있으며, 새와 짐승과 풀과 나무의 이름을 많이 알게 된다." (《논어·양화편》)

To inspire and be inspired, to peruse, to mingle, and to complain,

        Are all in the purview of poetry.

Waiting upon parents and serving the lord

        Can also be functions of poetry.

When flowers bloom here and there,

        We know those plants and trees.

We listen to birds and beasts

        Following each other, warbling and belling.

 

               Note: Confucius had these to say about the function of poetry: "Little ones, why don't you study Poetry? You can inspire and be inspired by it, peruse the world with it, mingle with people by it, and express grief through it. Nearby, you can serve the parents with it; far away, you can serve the lord, with it. You learn from it the names of many birds, beasts, plants, and trees." (The Analects, 17.9)
