신정,"호중의 고찰을 방문해 스님께 드립니다 訪湖中古寺贈僧"

申晸（字寅伯，號汾厓，1628-1687）

 

〈訪湖中古寺贈僧〉

 

梵宮飛構鬱穹崇，

鳥道攀藤過幾重。

松老廢庭巢鸛鶴，

雨深哀壑蟄蛟龍。

僧來殿上供秋茗，

客臥燈前聽曉鐘。

却喜空門緣果在，

虎溪從此好相從。

 

               注：《汾厓遺稿》本在題下注明丙戌（1646）作。是年詩人十八歲。尾句虎溪為江西廬山東林寺前之溪水。相傳慧遠法師送客不越此溪，越之就聽到虎吼，因而得名。

"호중의 고찰을 방문해 스님께 드립니다"

 

우뚝 솟은 산 속 높은 곳으로

      날 듯 들어선 사찰로

새들이나 넘을 아슬아슬한 산길을

      얼마나 돌고 돌아 기어 올라왔나요

 

황폐한 뜰 늙은 소나무에

      황새가 둥지를 틀고

처량한 계곡 이어지는 빗속에

      교룡이 숨어 삽니다

 

스님이 전각으로 와

      가을 차를 내 주시고

객은 등불 앞에 누워

      새벽종소리를 듣습니다

 

그래도 세상이 모두 비었다는

      이곳과 맺는 인연을 기뻐하니

지금부터 호랑이 냇물과는

      잘 지낼 수 있을 것 같습니다

 

           주: 시인의 유고집 《분애시고》는 제목 아래 병술년(1646)의 작품이라고 밝힙니다. 시인이 열 여덟 되던 해입니다. 마지막 행의 호계虎溪 (호랑이 냇물)는 중국 강서성 노산의 동림사 앞에 있는 시내입니다. 진나라의 승려 혜원대사는 손님을 배웅할 때 이 시내를 건너지 않았다고 합니다. 건너면 호랑이의 울음소리가 들렸기 때문이라고 합니다.

"Presented to a Monk on a Visit to an Old Temple in the Lake Region"

 

This Buddhist temple must have flown up so high

        To be set in this precipitous mountain,

How hard it was to crawl up this winding path,

        Meant to be cleared only by birds.

 

Storks nest on the old pine trees

        In a desolate courtyard;

Dragons live secluded in the prolonged rain

        In gloomy valleys.

 

A monk comes to the hall

        To offer autumn tea;

A guest lies down before a lamp

        And listens to the bell at down.

 

But I am delighted to find fated karma

        In this place that teaches emptiness.

Perhaps, I will get along well

        With the Tiger Stream from now.

 

               Notes: The posthumous anthology of the poet notes this poem was written in 1646, which is when the poet was 18 years old.  The Tiger Stream refers to a river near Donglin Monastery in Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi Province. Legend has it that a Buddhist monk by the name of Huiyuan would not cross a stream when he saw off a guest, because he heard tiger's howling when he crossed it.  The Tiger Stream was named as such because of this story.
