鳶魚物至微，飛躍自天機。
此理誰能識，中庸見發輝。
注：〈鳶魚〉，語本《詩經．大雅．旱麓》：「鳶飛戾天，魚躍于淵。」，喻萬物任其天性而動，各得其所。

"매와 물고기"
매와 물고기는 하찮은 동물이지만
날고 뛰는 데 나름 하늘의 뜻이 있습니다
이 이치를 누가 알 수 있을까요
중용을 지킬 때 빛을 발하게 됩니다
주: 이 시의 "매와 물고기"는 《시경: 대아》〈한록(메마른 산기슭)〉 편 "매가 하늘까지 날고, 물고기는 깊은 물에서 뛰어 오른다"라는 귀절에서 왔습니다. 만물이 모두 천성에 따라 움직이면서 조화를 이루는 세상을 말합니다.

"Hawks and Fishes"
Hawks and fishes are mere trifles,
But their soaring and jumping follow heaven's intent.
Who could know this principle?
They show their splendor in their practice of the mean.
Note: This poem alludes to a poem, "Hanlu, the Dry Mountain Foot," in the Book of Poetry. Two lines in particular are the direct source of the diction in the poem: "Hawks soar up to the sky; Fishes jump from a deep pool." The source poem describes the harmonious world in which myriad things move by their respective nature.
