〈踏青日，遊南村書堂〉

 

蕭然茅屋枕溪東，

岳色泉聲坐臥中。

花發鳥啼淸晝永，

一尊無語醉春風。

 

이상정 (자는 경문, 호는 대산, 1711-1781)

 

"풀 밟는 날 남촌서당을 노닐었습니다"

 

쓸쓸한 초가집 하나

      시냇물 동쪽에 기대어 있어

앉아서도 누워서도

      산 경치를 보고 샘물 소리를 듣습니다

꽃 피고 새 짖는

      긴 맑은 낮

술 한 독 앞에 놓고 아무 말 없이

      그냥 봄바람에 취합니다

 

           주: 답청踏青은 봄철 풀이 자라면 교외로 나가 노니는 것을 뜻하지만, "풀 밟는 날"로 번역한 답청일踏青日은 보통 청명절의 또 다른 이름으로 사용됩니다.

The desolate thatched cottage

        Stands near the east shore of a brook,

And I see the mountain and listen to the spring water

        Sitting up or lying down.

In the long clear daytime

        Of blossoming flowers and chattering birds,

I am without a word before a jug of wine,

        Getting tipsy by the spring breeze.

 

               Note: "Grass-treading" refers to the outing in the spring season, but "Grass-treading Day" is used often as an alternative name for the Qingming festival, which falls on early April.
