〈宿泉谷寺，向曲江〉

 

肩輿伊軋下中阿，

松桂深深桃杏華。

壯覩平生曾未有，

亂山東畔海無涯。

 

               注：泉谷寺，新羅善德女王（632-647在位）時慈藏律師所建於韓國浦項附近之禱蔭山之古剎，其建築不幸在韓國戰爭中消失。曲江流於浦項市之北。

"천곡사에서 머물고 곡강을 향합니다"

 

삐걱대는 가마 타고

      고갯마루 가운데를 내려오는데

소나무 계수나무 숲 깊숙하고

      복사꽃 살구꽃이 한창입니다

이렇게 대단한 경치는

      평생 본 적이 없습니다

어지럽게 널린 산의 동쪽으로

      바다가 끝이 없습니다

 

           주: 천곡사는 신라 선덕여왕(632-647재위)의 명을 받아 자장율사가 포항부근 도음산에 창건한 고찰입니다. 건축물은 불행히 한국전쟁 중에 소실되었습니다. 곡강은 포항시의 북쪽을 흐르는 하천입니다.

"Heading Toward the Meandering River, After Staying Overnight at the Spring Valley Temple"

 

The sedan chair creaks

        As I come down through the middle of the hills.

Pine and cassia tree woods are deep,

        And flowers of peach and apricot are in full bloom.

A magnificent scene as this,

        I have never seen in my life.

From the east margin of randomly scattered mountains,

        Extends the sea without end.

 

               Note: Ch'ōn-gok Temple, translated here as "Spring Valley Temple," is an old Buddhist temple build by Reverend Cha-jang during Queen Sōn-dōk's reign (632-647) in the To-ūm Mountain near the present P'o-hang. The architecture was destroyed unfortunately during the Korean War.  Kok-kang, translated here as "Meandering River," flows along the northside of P'o-hang.
