千里登臨鏡浦臺，

江湖極目思難裁。

黃雲塞戍寒通氣，

高閣天風勢絶埃。

飛泳靜閒物自得，

古今寥廓吾生哀。

百年憂樂非身計，

慙愧扁舟作散材。

"경포대에 올라" 두 수의 첫째

 

경포대에 올라

      천 리를 마주하며 내려다 보니

강과 호수가 눈길 끝까지 이어져

      생각을 가다듬기 어렵습니다

 

누런 구름 속 변방의 요새에는

      싸늘한 공기가 가득하고

높은 누각 하늘에서 부는 바람은

      먼지를 끊어낼 기세입니다

 

나는 것도 헤엄치는 것도 잔잔하게 한가로워

      세상 사물 모두 자기들 좋을 대로인데

옛날도 오늘날도 넓게 펼쳐진 정적 속에서

      우리 삶은 애처롭습니다

 

백 년의 걱정도 즐거움도

      모두 내가 헤아릴 수 없으니

조각배 속의 쓸모없는 사람임이

      부끄러울 따름입니다

Ascending the Mirror Bay Terrace

        And looking out to a thousand li,

Rivers and lakes are extended to the end of my vision,

        And it is hard to brace up my thoughts.

 

The garrison at the border in dull yellow clouds

        Is filled with chill air;

The wind in the sky by the high tower

        Are in high spirit to cut off the dust.

 

Those that fly and those that swim all in idyllic stillness,

        Everything is in the way it wishes;

In antiquity as well as now in vast quietude,

        Our lives are sorrowful.

 

Worries or joys of a hundred years

        Are all beyond my comprehension.

I am ashamed of being so useless,

        And just ride on a tiny boat.
