〈一擔星光〉

 

雙目視力減退了還看得到星星

珍惜落到雨點谷的星光

我像晚秋松鼠般塞滿了一大袋了

 

前往千里異域首爾的路

一擔星光裝載在瘦削身架去了

為何這麼暗呢？

像過時的歌曲似地偷偷躲開了視線

仁寺洞小巷裏終無處可扔

是，首爾稍微亮了點兒罷了

緊緊閉著老花兩眼

我紮好神態灰溜溜的一袋星光了

 

乘坐三號線地鐵，換乘深夜高速巴士

眨眼短覺間回到蟾津江邊家裏

老伴藏著松鼠尾說了

哎呀，米袋裏都沒裝著大米回來

她拔掉了電鍋插頭

 

挨餓幾天也不能在隨便什麼地方都結蜘蛛網吧

過子夜到蟾津江邊白沙岸

打開了頹喪自餒的星光袋

螢火立即撲棱撲棱飛上了

蹲到搐搐抽筋後要起來

就昏昏眩暈了

星星照耀得比想像的近多了

"A Load of Starlight"

 

Stars are visible even with poor eyesight.

Cherishing so much the starlight pouring in to Dotting Rain Valley,

I filled a big bag with it like a squirrel.

 

The road to Seoul, a thousand miles away from home,

I went carrying a load of starlight on a skinny back rack.

Why is it so dark?

They dodged my gaze as if it were an outmoded song.

Nowhere in the back alleys of Insa-dong village I could dispose of it.

That's right, Seoul did get a bit brighter, that's all.

Closing tight my two senile eyes,

I fastened back the dispirited bag of starlight.

 

Taking Line 3 subway and transferring to midnight express bus,

I came back home by the Toad-Ford River in no time.

My wife blurted out, hiding her squirrel tail,

Oh, My! You came back with the bag without rice in it.

And she pulled out the plug of rice cooker.

 

A few days without food shouldn't make us weave a cobweb anywhere.

I went out to the beach by the Toad-Ford River after midnight.

As soon as I untied the dispirited bag of starlight,

The glow of fireflies fluttered up,

Standing up after having squatted until I have cramp,

I felt giddy and tottery.

Stars twinkled at a distance much closer than I'd thought.

"별빛 한 짐"

 

두 눈이 나빠져도 별은 보인다

빗점골에 쏟아지는 별빛이 아까워

늦가을 다람쥐처럼 한 자루 가득 채웠다

 

이역천리 서울 가는 길

깡마른 몸 지게에 별빛 한 짐 지고 갔더니

와 이리 캄캄하노?

철지난 노래처럼 슬슬 눈길을 피했다

인사동 뒷골목엔 내다버릴 곳이 없었다

그래, 서울이 좀 더 밝아졌을 뿐이야

노안의 두 눈을 질끈 감고

풀이 푹 죽은 별빛 한 자루를 둘러맸다

 

지하철3호선 심야고속버스 갈아타고

까무룩 섬진강 집으로 돌아오니

아내가 다람쥐꼬리를 감추며 말했다

에휴, 쌀자루에 쌀은 안 담아오고

전기밥솥 코드를 뽑아버렸다

 

며칠 굶는다고 아무데나 거미줄 치랴

자정 넘어 섬진강 백사장에 나가

풀이 푹 죽은 별빛자루를 열자마자

호르르 반딧불들이 날아올랐다

쥐나도록 쪼그려 앉았다 일어서는데

어찔비칠 현기증이 일었다

생각보다 아주 가까이 별들이 빛났다
