鄭宗魯（字士仰，號立齋，又號無適翁，1738-1816）

 

〈卜居〉四首之三

 

吾祖晩退遯，卜築愚溪間。

水流巖峽古，境僻日月閒。

王考及暮年，偃仰以怡顔。

子孫因之居，遂未出玆山。

終歲樂耕釣，與世絶往還。

邇來四十年，久矣掩松關。

 

               注：首句〈吾祖〉指鄭經世（號愚伏，1563-1633），生於商州栗里，弱冠及第出仕，五十四歲時回故鄉。

"어디 살지 점치기" 네 수의 세째

 

내 선조는 뒤늦게 물러나 은거하실 때

여기 "바보내" 우계에 집을 지었습니다

 

물이 흐르는 바위와 계곡이 예스럽고

궁벽한 풍경 속에서 해와 달도 서두르지 않습니다

 

노년에 이르러 할아버지는

흐뭇한 얼굴로 주무시고 일어나셨지요

 

그래서 자손들은 여기 살았고

이 산에서 나가지 않았습니다

 

한 해 내내 즐겁게 땅을 일구고 고기를 잡고

세상과 오고 가는 건 끊겼습니다

 

그렇게 사십 년이 흘렀으니

소나무 대문이 닫힌 지도 참 오래 되었습니다

 

           주: 첫 행의 "내 선조"는 정경세(호는 우복, 1563-1633)을 지칭합니다. 우복은 상주 율리에서 태어나 약관의 나이에 과거에 급제한 후 관직을 하다가 쉰이 넘어서 고향으로 돌아왔습니다.

"Choosing a Home through Divination" Third of Four Poems

 

When my ancestor retired into a life of a recluse,

He divined to build a residence here in Fools Creek.

 

With the water flowing through, rocks and valleys feel archaic;

The scene so secluded, even the sun and the moon are leisurely.

 

Reaching the old age, my grandfather

Rose up and lay down, with a countenance of delight.

 

Thus, his offspring has been living here,

And never left these mountains.

 

We till the land and catch fish all year long,

And coming and going with the world were severed.

 

Forty years have passed like that,

And it's been a long time since the pinewood gate was closed.

 

               Note: "My ancestor" in the first line refers to Chōng Kyōng-se (1563-1633). He was born in Chestnut Village in Sang-ju. After passing the civil service examination in his early twenties, he served in may government positions, before returning home when he was 54.
