蹲在篤特津頭邊林子裏的茅房，江流自然而然進入視野。霧靄徐徐散開顯示江景時蹲著看望篤特津頭的早晨又是另一個世界。小鳥，有的飛翔，有的跳進水裏，有的獨腳站立在岩石。是的，我也是那樣蹲著而已。那樣蹲著作令人驚奇的風景裏小小一點。那個世界由那個世界，這個世界由這個世界，就那樣就這樣蹲著兩腿麻酥酥的世界裏，一天就那樣過去，一年就那樣過去，一生也就那樣過去。那樣智異山某一角落的石頭間，誰也不看一眼的野菊一朵孤單單自開自謝。

"Time that I Have Dawdled Away, Squatting in the Outhouse"

 

As I squat down in the outhouse in the woods by Tutōp Ford, the river comes naturally into my sight. The mist disperses unhurriedly, exposing the river scene, and the morning at Tutōp Ford I see squatting in the outhouse is yet another world. There're birds, some soar up, some dive into water, and some stand single-legged on a rock. Right, I too am squatting down just like that. Just like that I am squatting as a tiny dot on a wondrous scene. That world in the way of that world, this world in the way of this world, in the world where I squat till I feel my legs tingle, a day passes like that, a year passes like that, and a life passes like that. In a corner in the Chiri Mountain a wild daisy that no one cares to look at blooms by itself and withers by itself, all alone.

두텁나루숲 뒷간에 앉아 있으면 강이 자연스럽게 눈에 들어온다. 서서히 안개가 걷히며 강이 모습을 드러내는데 쪼그려 앉아 바라보는 두텁나루의 아침은 또 다른 세상이다. 새들은 날아오르거나 자맥질하거나 바위에 외다리로 서 있다. 그래, 나도 그러고 있을 뿐이다. 그렇게 경이로운 풍경 속 점 하나로 쪼그려 앉아 있는 것이다. 그 세상은 그 세상대로 이 세상은 이 세상대로 쪼그려 앉아 다리가 저린 세상, 그렇게 하루가 가고 한 해가 가고 한 생이 간다. 그렇게 지리산 어느 구석 바위틈에 아무도 눈길 주지 않는 구절초 하나 홀로 피었다 진다.
