像糜爛的芒果般黏黏糊糊的歸仁午後
潮濕的空氣中市場通道裏連綿無際的迷宮
在猛虎也未能撕開吞吃的那市場一小末尾
賣芒果的年老女人
密林裏窒息般跟她纏繞的記憶
像黑暗中腐爛的芒果般突然浮上來的她那笑容
年老女人手上的黑斑芒果
歷史如同潰爛的芒果般飄出臭味兒
在積塵的攤子上
在未曾記錄的時間裏
被壓碾的仁川與歸仁的追憶
像死亡女王刻瑞斯在破碎的村莊前
說著沒事沒事，馬上就要結束
她站著像爆破藥般閃亮亮笑了
灑落到她後面的砲彈的破片
破裂的芒果般染紅紅的歸仁夜晚
緊握著染上血色的心臟
我們不得不互相放開
看著既老也爛的芒果的她
像朽爛的芒果形體也沒留下的愛戀記錄
從她的沈默裏冒出來的黑色文字

"Quy Nhon to Private First Class Pak"
An afternoon in Quy Nhon, sticky like overripe mangos.
A maze connected endlessly into the damp air off the thoroughfare in the market.
An old woman selling mangos
In the fringe of the market that even the Ferocious Tigers was unable to devour.
The memory of the jungle where I was entangled with her breathlessly.
Her smile floating up abruptly like a mango getting rotten in the dark.
Mangos with black lesions in the old woman's hand.
The memories of In-ch'ōn and Quy Nhon crushed,
With history reeking a foul odor like gangrenous mangos,
On the vendor's stall, collecting dust,
And in the time never recorded.
In front of the shattered village, like Ceres, the queen of death,
She stood with a smile beaming like dynamite,
Saying, it's okay, it'll be over soon.
Fragments of bombshells pouring down behind her.
The night in Quy Nhon tinged red like burst mangos.
Clutching the hearts dyed in blood,
We had to let go of each other.
The woman looking at the old, bruised mangos.
A record of love with the form beyond recognition like rotten mangos.
Dark words sprouting out from her silence.
A ripped confession
To be found nowhere.
A story with only the skin remaining.
An album that continues to fall into decay.
Translator's Note: Quy Nhon is a port city in Vietnam. The Ferocious Tigers is the name of the first Korean combat force dispatched to Vietnam and stationed in Quy Nhon. In-ch'ōn is a port city west of Seoul, used in early stages of the dispatch of Korean troops.

맹호조차 뜯어 먹지 못했던 시장 끄트머리에서
망고를 파는 늙은 여인
그녀와 숨 막히게 엉겼던 밀림의 기억
어둠 속에서 썩어가는 망고처럼 불쑥 떠오르는 그녀의 웃음
늙은 여인의 손에 들린 검게 물든 망고
역사는 짓무른 망고처럼 냄새를 풍기고
먼지 쌓인 좌판 위
기록되지 않은 시간 속에서
뭉개지는 인천과 퀴논의 추억
죽음의 여왕 케레스처럼 부서진 마을 앞에서
그녀는 괜찮다고, 이제 곧 끝날 거라고
다이너마이트처럼 환하게 웃고 서 있었지
그녀 뒤로 쏟아지던 포탄의 파편들
터져버린 망고처럼 붉게 물들었던 퀴논의 밤
핏물 든 심장을 움켜쥐고
우리는 서로를 놓아야 했지
늙고 상한 망고를 바라보는 그녀

역주: 퀴논은 월남 중남부의 항구도시로 한국군 맹호부대가 주둔해 참전한 곳입니다. 인천은 파병 초기 사용되었던 항구이기도 했습니다.
