〈一日不飲戲作〉

 

君不見昔時周大常，

一年三百五十九日齋而淸。

又不見今時李春卿，

閱歲一萬八十日，今日幸而醒。

莫作大常妻，

一窺怒犯齋。

莫作春卿婦，

醉倒不與偕。

彼淸我狂雖或異，

於婦均是生不諧。

不如却作梁鴻妻，

不恥布裙與荊釵。

賢相敵歡有餘，

擧案與眉齊。

 

               注：周太常，東漢周澤，永平十年（公元67年）為太常，常臥疾齋宮，其妻哀澤老病，窺問所苦。澤大怒，以妻干犯齋禁，遂收送詔獄謝罪。《後漢書》有傳。春卿詩人李奎報之字。梁鴻，字伯鸞，東漢初隱士。其妻貌醜而賢，共入巴陵山，布裙荊釵，以耕織為業，咏詩書彈琴以自娛。

"하루 술을 거르고 장난삼아 씁니다"

 

먼 옛날 태상 주씨를 그대는 보지 못하시나요

일 년이면 삼백 오십 구 일

      재를 지켜 정신이 맑았다 하지요

오늘날의 소생 이춘경을 그대는 또 보지 못하시나요

이제껏 나이 먹으며 일만 팔십 일 동안

      오늘 하루 다행이 취하지 않았습니다

태상의 아내는 되지 마세요

한 번 들여다 보았는데 재계를 어겼다고 화를 냈답니다

춘경의 부인도 되지 마세요

취해 자빠져서 같이 있지 못합니다

그 사람은 정신이 맑고 나는 미쳤으니 어쩌면 서로 다르지만

둘 다 부인과 살아도 어울리지 않는 건 같습니다

차라리 양홍의 처가 되는 것이 나을 겁니다

무명치마와 가시나무 비녀를 부끄러워 하지 않았습니다

현명함은 서로 어울리고 기쁨은 넉넉했으니

밥상을 눈썹과 나란히 받든 것이지요

 

           주: 태상 주씨는 후한 때의 인물인 주택(周澤)입니다. 태상의 벼슬을 지냈는데, 아픈 몸으로도 늘 재를 지키는 것을 안타깝게 여긴 처가 들여다 보고 안부를 하자 크게 노하여 처가 재를 지키는 법을 어겼다고 죄를 물었다고 합니다. 춘경(春卿)은 이 시를 쓴 이규보의 자입니다. 양홍(梁鴻)은 자는 백란(伯鸞)이고 후한 초의 은사입니다. 그의 처는 박색이었으나 현명했고, 함께 파릉산으로 들어가 살았습니다. 무명치마를 입고 가시나무 가지로 비녀를 꽂았고, 농사와 길쌈을 업으로 살면서 시와 서를 읽고 가야금을 타면서 스스로 즐겼다고 합니다.

"Writing in Jest after Not Drinking a Day"

 

Do you not see Chamberlain Zhou of a long time ago,

Who abstained from wine and thus was clear

        Three-hundred fifty-nine days a year?

Do you also not see Ch'un-gyōng, yours truly,

Who in the ten-thousand and eighty days of the entire life

        Was fortunately sober on this single day?

Don't be wife of the chamberlain.

One peep may trigger anger for violating sacrificial abstinence.

Don't be Ch'un-gyōng's spouse.

He passes out drunk, and the partner won't be around.

He is clear, I am mad, and that might make the two different,

But they're the same, for neither is in harmony with wife.

It'd be better to be a Liang Hong's wife,

And not feel ashamed of humble clothes and thorny twig hairpins.

Equal in wisdom and overflowing with joy,

She would respectfully lift the meal platter to the eyebrows to bring.

 

               Notes: Chamberlain Zhou is Zhou Ze of Eastern Han. He became the Chamberlain for Ceremonials in 67 CE. He was constantly in sacrificial abstinence to his old age. His wife, being concerned of her husband's poor health, looked into the shrine where he was in sacrificial abstinence.  This enraged the chamberlain, and he reported his wife's violation of the rules of abstinence. Ch'un-gyōng is an alternative name of the poet, Yi Kyu-bo. Liang Hong is a recluse in early Eastern Han. His wife, a homely-looking woman, was wise. She did not mind humble clothes and even hairpin made of thorny twigs. They lived the lives dedicated to each other, tilling, weaving, chanting poems, and playing the zither.
