〈遇明夷之八〉

 

格陵蘭島將親轄，

委國原油我自扒。

不滿不分敵友邦，

提高關稅玩掙扎。

黑黃膚色不宜多，

不異茅茹當速揠。

有志良民亦有言，

官軍逮捕或殘殺。

人人義憤又驚慌，

不免時情更噪咶。

適授易經共揲蓍，

明夷地火且之八。

利艱貞用晦而明，

難大以蒙深省察。

並訴神明世患源，

祈求孽種連根拔。

 

               注：今世之憂患，為美國領導所招致者不少。余適授《周易》，與師生共以筮草問卜，遇明夷之八，賦詩錄之。

"명이괘를 만났는데 움직이는 효가 없었습니다"

 

"그린랜드는 이제 곧

      우리가 친히 관할해야 해

베네수엘라의 원유도

      내가 스스로 파내지

불만이 있어?

      적국이든 우방이든 가리지 않아

관세를 높게 때리고

      허덕거리는 꼴을 즐기면 좋겠네

피부가 검거나 노란 사람들이

      많아지면 좋지 않아

띠풀과 다르지 않으니

      반드시 서둘러 뽑아버려야 해"

뜻이 있는 사람들은

      할 말도 있는데

관군은 그들을 잡아들이고

      또 잔인하게 죽이기도 하지요

사람들이 모두 그릇된 일에 분노하면서

      놀라고 어이없어 하니

시국도 여론도

      더욱 시끄러워집니다

때마침 《역경》을 가르치고 있어서

      함께 시초로 점을 쳤습니다

밝은 빛이 상처를 입어 땅에 묻힌

      불의 모습으로 움직이지 않는 점괘입니다

힘든 시절에 곧은 것이 이롭고

      어두워진 빛이 밝게 비칠 것이랍니다

이로써 큰 어려움을 마주하라는

      뜻을 깊이 새겨야 하겠습니다

또한 천지신명에게

      세상 병환의 근원에 대해 호소하고

죄의 씨앗이 뿌리째

      뽑히기를 기구합니다

 

           주: 오늘날 세상의 우환 중 미국의 국가지도자가 불러온 것이 적지 않습니다. 마침 《주역周易》을 가르치고 있어서 학생들과 함께 시초로 점을 친 결과 서른 여섯째 괘인 명이明夷괘를 점괘로 얻었는데 움직이는 효가 없었습니다. 그래서 시를 지어 기록합니다.

"Encountered the Light-Impaired (Mingyi) Hexagraph with No Moving Lines"

 

"Greenland shall soon be under our own jurisdiction.

We will dig by ourself for the crude oil in Venezuela.

Any complains, be it from allies or from enemies,

Will be treated with high tariffs, and we'll entertain their struggle.

It is improper to have too many people with dark skins, black or brown,

Who, like cogon grass, shall be pulled out as quickly as possible."

Citizens with good intent have something to say,

And government forces arrest them and even kill them.

Everyone is indignant, frightened, and flustered,

And the public opinion is, unavoidably, an uproarious outcry.

I happen to be teaching the Yijing, and we performed a yarrow stalk divination.

The oracle received was "light impaired," earth burying fire, with no moving line.

"Beneficial to be steadfast in hard times; dimmed light shall shine."

We shall deeply reflect on the advice to meet big adversities with this,

Plead the luminous spirit with the source of maladies in the world,

And pray that the bane of our peace be uprooted completely.

 

               Note: There are many tribulations in the world now that may be blamed on the leader of the United States. I happen to be teaching a course on the Yijing, the Book of Changes. Students and the instructor performed together a divination using yarrow stalks. The oracle encountered was Hexagraph #36, Mingyi (Light Impaired) moving to eight, which means no actual moving of any line. I write this poem to record it.
