"Swordsman in the Twilight"

 

You are a sword forged expertly by the tip of an artisan's hands.

The life stands erect like the traces of the master hand

And a longing stretches out like orchid leaves drawn on a scroll,

Dividing east from west, south from north day after day.

When a stroke is drawn up, an autumn wind rises everywhere,

And with every flash of light a falling leaf sticks into a star.

 

You are a brush pen that traverses across the picture.

When the color of the ink in the brush runs,

A towering stroke stands and remains through the life.

The signs of daybreak dreamt by the sleepless night

The colors of the shade so clear to look sorrowful

Dominate the night as if they were their own tune.

 

You who wanted to become a star

Like the magnolia flower that climbed to the treetop,

A daredevil with no fear of height,

Hang a ladder on the twilight.

The grief not to be captured has matured into lushness.

당신은 장인의 손끝으로 잘 벼린 검입니다

명장의 궤적처럼 삶이 곤두서고

화폭에 친 난의 선처럼 그리움이 뻗어나

날마다 동서남북을 가르지요

획을 그을 때면 어디에나 추풍이 일고

번쩍일 때마다 낙엽이 별에 박힙니다

 

당신은 화면을 가로지르는 붓입니다

묵빛이 길게 번질 때면 우뚝우뚝

일생에 남을 한 획이 서지요

불면의 밤이 꿈꾸었던 새벽빛의 전조

청량하다 못해 슬픈 음지의 빛깔이

마치 제 곡조인 양 밤을 지배합니다

 

별이 되고 싶었던 당신은

우듬지 꼭대기에 오른 목련처럼

높은 곳을 두려워하지 않는 강심장

석양에 사다리를 걸어 봅니다

잡히지 않는 설움이 익어 무성합니다
