〈贈別丹池洞學伴〉

 

我有丈夫淚，何曾灑別離。

陽關不須唱，聚散各有時。

 

               注：十二歲作。

"단지동에서 함께 공부한 친구들과 작별하며"

 

내게는 장부의 눈물이 있을 뿐이니

어떻게 이별한다고 흘렸겠어요

양관의 이별곡도 부를 필요 없습니다

모이고 헤어지는 건 다 때가 있으니까요

 

           주: 《태계선생문집》에는 이 시가 열 살 때 썼다고 기록되어 있습니다. 세째 행의 "양관陽關"은 "양관삼첩陽關三疊" 또는 "양관곡陽關曲"이라 불리는 중국의 옛 노래곡입니다. 당나라 왕유(王維, 699-761)의 작품 "사절로 안서로 떠나는 원씨댁 둘째를 송별하며 送元二使安西"에서 시작되었습니다. 왕유의 시 마지막 두 행은 매우 잘 알려져 있습니다. "그대에게 한 잔 더 드시라 권합니다. 양관을 나서 서쪽으로 가면 아는 사람이 없을 겁니다. 勸君更盡一杯酒，西出陽關無故人。"

"Bidding Farewell to Study Companions at Vermillion Pond Grove"

 

I only have tears of a fully grown man.

How could I ever shed them for separation?

There is no need to sing the Song of Yangguan Pass.

Meeting and parting happen at their due time.

 

               Note: Poet's anthology notes that this poem was written when he was twelve years old. "Yangguan Pass" in line #3 refers to an old musical tune in China.  It originated from "Seeing off Yuan the Second Going as an Envoy to Anxi Protectorate" by Wang Wei (699-761). The last couplet of Wang's poem is well known: "Let me offer you to drink up another cup. When you go west outside of the Yangguan Pass, there would be no one that you know."
