許千壽（字耆卿，號天山齋，1509-1577）

 

〈留別李龜巖〉

 

逢時難盡別時談，

巧嗾童奴倦秣驂。

夜夜相思無限意，

月入人面照寒潭。

 

               注：李楨（字剛而，號龜巖，1512-1571），朝鮮前期文臣，官至左副承旨。與退溪李滉交遊。詩人為退溪之門人、妻舅，亦與龜巖有來往。

 

허천수 (자는 시경, 호는 천산재, 1509-1577)

 

"떠나며 구암에게 드립니다"

 

헤어졌을 때의 이야기를

      만난다고 다 할 수 없겠지요

지친 말에게 여물 먹여두라는 말도

      아해들에게 넌지시 합니다

밤이면 밤마다 서로 그리워하며

      생각에 끝이 없을 테니

사람 얼굴이 달로 스며들어

      차디찬 연못을 비추겠지요

 

           주: 구암은 이정(자는 강이, 1512-1571)의 호입니다. 조선전기의 문신으로 벼슬이 좌부승지에 이르렀고, 성리학에 밝아 퇴계 이황과도 교유했습니다. 시인은 퇴계의 처남이면서 제자였고, 그래서 구암과도 교유했던 듯합니다.

"A Poem Leaving to Yi Ku-am as I Depart"

 

It is not possible while we are together

        To share all the thoughts of being separated.

Even the instructions to fodder the tired horses,

        I give to servants tacitly.

Night after night, we long for each other

        With thoughts that know no limit.

Perhaps your face would enter the moon

        To shine upon the chill pond.

 

               Note: Ku-am is the sobriquet of Yi Chōng (1512-1571), a civil official of early Cho-sōn period. He was well trained in Neo-Confucianism, and communicated with Yi Hwang.  The poet was Yi Hwang's brother-in-law and student, and in that context had friendly relationship with Yi Chōng.
