〈看梅〉

 

看梅妙處在黃昏，

雪有微光月有痕。

為底閉門看不徹，

只緣無笑亦無言。

"매화를 보며"

 

매화를 보기에 제일 좋은 건

         역시 뉘엿뉘엿 지는 햇빛 속에서

눈 위로 어슴푸레 빛이 비치고

         달빛이 흔적을 남기는 때입니다

 

문을 닫아 걸고

         눈 여겨 보려 하지 않는 건

웃지도 않고

         말도 없기 때문일 뿐이겠지요

The best way to see a plum tree

            Is in the twilight of the sun, slanting slowly,

When the dim luster lingers on the snow,

            And the moon begins to leave traces.

 

The reason why I would bolt the gate

            And not peruse it

Is perhaps only because it does not smile

            And never say a word.
