〈歲末思先父〉

 

遠遊萬里又無方，

只在懷中念不忘。

一日匆匆離去後，

微風雨夜臥虛堂。

 

            注：首句用《論語 · 里仁》：「父母在，不遠遊，遊必有方。」

"세모에 먼저 가신 아버지를 생각합니다"

 

멀리 만 리 밖까지 떠나왔을 뿐 아니라

         어떤 방도도 마련하지 못했습니다

그저 마음 속에서

         잊지 않고 그리워 할 뿐이었지요

 

어느 날 서둘 듯

         떠나가신 후에는

바람 조금 불거나 비 오는 밤이면

         텅 빈 방에 홀로 눕습니다

 

         주: 첫 구절은 "부모가 계시면 멀리 여행하지 말아라. 여행할 때는 꼭 방도가 있어야 한다 父母在，不遠遊，遊必有方。"는 《논어 論語 · 이인 里仁》 공자님의 말씀을 이용합니다.

Not just having come to ten-thousand miles away,

            I had no measures prepared.

I only kept him in my bosom,

            Always thought and never forgot.

 

After one day when

            He left in hurried footsteps,

I lie down in an empty hall,

            In breezy, rainy nights.

 

            Note: The opening line uses words of Confucius recorded in the Liren Chapter of the Analects: "When you have parents, do not travel afar.  When you travel, there must be prepared measures."
